ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- 38-year-old Steven McDowell of Rockford, also known as "Ty" was sentenced yesterday in federal court on drug conspiracy charges.
McDowell was sentenced to spend 315 months in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute at least one kilogram of heroin, and ordered to serve 5 years of supervised release following his imprisonment. McDowell was convicted on June, 14, 2012 of one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin, and six counts of distribution of heroin.
According to the indictment and evidence at trial, McDowell was the leader of an illegal drug trafficking operation in Rockford that began as early as April 2010 and continued into December 2010.
24-year-old Jeremy Cooper and Robert Presley, 33, both of Chicago, were also convicted for their roles in the drug conspiracy.
Murray Harris Jr., 36, of Chicago and 47-year-old Norman Breedloveof Rockford pled guilty to their involvement in the conspiracy.
