UPDATE: ROCK COUNTY (WIFR) – The man who police say killed his friend in a 2014 crash will spend the next four years in prison. The crash happened in the town of Avon.
Investigators say 21-year-old Devon Hurd of Machesney Park was driving the car with 20-year-old Christopher Huggins in the passenger seat, when the car slid off the road and hit several trees.
Police say Huggins was pinned in the vehicle and later died from his injuries.
ROCK COUNTY (WIFR) -- A Rockford man died Sunday morning after a single vehicle crash in the town of Avon in Rock County.
Deputies from Rock County were called to a single vehicle crash on South Hopkins Road in the town for Avon, WI, scene shortly before 2:30am Sunday. EMS and fire crews from Beloit and Orfordville also responded. Officers found a 2008 Chevy Impala in the middle of the road. The driver, 19-year-old Devon Hurd of Machesney Park was hurt as was his passenger, 20-year-old Christopher Huggins. First responders say Huggins was semi-conscious and pinned inside the car. Flight-for-Life was called in for help but Huggins died before the helicopter arrived. Hurd was treated and released from a hospital in Janesville.
Crash investigators say Hurd's car was heading north on South Hopkins Road when the car began to slide on the gravel road and then left the roadway. The passenger side struck a group of trees before the car came to a stop in the middle of the road. Both men were wearing their seat belts. No charges have been filed in the crash.
