ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Rockford man is recovering after being shot several times in the lower half of his body this morning on the city's southeast side.

Police say around 2:14 a.m. Friday, officers responded to the 1400 block of 8th Avenue after receiving a report of gunshots. Witnesses also say a man was lying on the ground and two other men picked the victim up, placed him in a vehicle and drove from the area.

A gunshot victim and two other people arrived at an area hospital a short time later.

The 21-year-old victim is expected to be OK.

In a police interview with the two other men, they said they were there at the time of the shooting. They say the three of them were standing outside a home when a red SUV drove by them with two black men inside. One of the men shot a gun and struck the victim.

No arrests have been made yet. The suspects are described as 20-year-old black men.
