Update: Victim's Family Reacts after Rockford Man Gets 10 Years for Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Rockford man who wouldn't stay on the scene of a fatal accident will now be staying in a prison cell.

The victim's family says the sentence isn't long enough.

Ryan Banks, 31, plead guilty to failure to report an accident involving death. As part of the plea Banks was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

On May 15, 2013 Banks car hit a motorcycle at the intersection of 11th Street and Sawyer Road. Banks than took off. The motorcyclist, Scott Zwiefelhofer, died in the crash. Banks will have two years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence.

Zwiefelhofer's long time girlfriend Dawn Kudlacik says penalties for those who drive away after hitting someone should be stiffer.

"I get to watch everybody else head home with their families with their spouses, with their boyfriends," said Kudlacik. "I come home to an empty house."
