Rockford Man Sentenced for Bank Robbery

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A Rockford man who robbed three banks has been sentenced in federal court.

Pedro Cordero, 52, was sentenced to five years and two months in federal prison for the robbery of BMO Harris Bank on S. Alpine last July.

According to the plea agreement, on July 12, 2014, Cordero robbed the bank while wearing a San Antonio Spurs cap and carrying a Kane County Cougars umbrella.

The next day, Cordero was stopped for a traffic violation. The cap, umbrella, and $10,000 from the bank robbery was found in his car.

In addition, Cordero admitted to robbing the U.S. Bank on East State Street last May and the Associated Bank on Center Terrace in June.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Rockford man has been arrested in connection to three armed robberies in the last three months.

Rockford Police say 52-year-old Pedro Cordero was arrested during a traffic stop on July 13.

Police believe he may be responsible for the armed robbery of BMO Harris Bank at 2500 South Alpine Road on July 12, 2014, the armed robbery of Associated Bank at 4400 Center Terrace on June 2, 2014 and the armed robbery of U.S. Bank at 1100 East State Street on May 8, 2014.

Cordero has been lodged in the Winnebago County Justice Center in lieu of bond.
