ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Forest City is living up to its nickname as Rockford makes a short list in the America in Bloom competition.

Judges are traveling around town on Monday and Tuesday making stops at area attractions like the Klehm Arboretum. They are rating our community on a number of things like garden displays, landscaping and anti-littering efforts. Rockford is in the running for the "Circle of Champions" award. Only eleven other cities out of 200 have earned this honor.

"Rockford is on track calling them the "City of Gardens" because we've already seen a number of gardens and we think that's very Impressive. The tree canopy looks like its coming back I know they have had a great loss in the past and we also take a little peek of whats up coming too and we see energy here."

The judges will also give Rockford a list of recommendations on things to improve. The city will find out if it's a winner in October.
