ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It turns out Chicago-Rockford International Airport just missed out on being the location for a brand new massive Boeing Production Plant, that could have brought with it thousands of jobs.
RFD's Deputy Director of Finance and Administration Amy Ott told 23 News Wednesday that the airport met with Boeing execs last week. Showing off a plot of land to the west of one of their runways that would have served as the spot for a massive manufacturing plant. Boeing would have built their brand new 777X aircraft there, but the airplane maker just struck a deal with the workers union at their Seattle based Plant. Meaning Rockford is no longer in the running.
More than 50 sites in 22 states were competing for the plant. Rockford was one of five finalists.
