ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A new partnership between the Rockford IceHogs and District 205 will allow students to experience what its like to work for a professional sports team.
Hockey players stopped by West Middle School Friday to kick off the program. Over the next couple of weeks they will continue to hit up every Rockford middle school to talk with students.
The kids will also receive a hockey workbook which incorporates the sport into lessons including math, science and reading.
IceHogs Head Coach Ted Dent says the program allows players to give back to the forest city.
"We were here last year and got to meet some of the students and we actually had an outing with them last where we got to skated with them at our rink and expose them to ice skating. So anytime we can help out with the community its a great thing," Dent said.
The partnership will allow students to learn about different careers in the sports biz. When the program wraps up in January all middle school students will be going on a free field trip to an IceHogs game.
