ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Average gas prices around the Rockford area have fallen five cents per gallon this week. The current average is now at $3.65 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy, that average is 14 cents per gallon higher than a month ago but 31 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
The national average is $3.59 per gallon, which is two cents per gallon lower than last week. It's the same as last month and 22 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
"With gas prices averaging 22 cents per gallon lower than last year, there's a lot of extra hot dogs and beer that can be consumed instead of being redirected into the tanks of American motorists," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst. "While motorists feel this has been a bad year for gas prices, it hasn't been as painful as 2012."
