ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A Rockford school that’s been around for 165 years will have a new name come Monday. Rockford College will switch to Rockford University.
College President, Robert Head says for years, many outsiders have thought of the college as a small university.
The four-year school was founded back in 1847 as the Rockford Female Seminary and it has seen a lot of growth over the years, from the first students camping out at the new campus in 1959 to the construction of the Colman Library. With a “university” title, the school also hopes to attract more international students.
