ROCKFORD (WIFR) – One of the oldest institutions in the Forest City begins a new era today as Rockford College officially changes its name to Rockford University.
The new name and logos were unveiled across campus this morning. University president Dr. Robert Head told the crowd, the University’s programs will continue to focus on the liberal arts just as they have for the last 166 years. He added, the switch to University means much more than the new signs and t-shirts, as it’s also expected to increase the school’s appeal globally.
“In many, many places around the world, college means high school or a two-year school and now we’re eliminating the confusion,” said Dr. Head.
“It’s a great competitive advantage when I’m trying to find a job in Kyrgyzstan because American education is very valuable and plus, if you have Rockford University on it instead of a college.”
With the change to university, the school is now divided into three colleges which altogether offer about 80 majors, minors, and concentrations.
