Rockford Carjacking Ends in Crash

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A carjacking Monday afternoon ends in a car crash.

The Illinois State Police say the driver a red Pontiac was carjacked near the Wal-Mart on Riverside Blvd. and Central Ave. around 4:30 p.m. Monday. About 15 minutes later the Pontiac was involved in a car crash at the intersection of Safford Road and Springfield Road.

We are told the carjacking suspect did not stop at the stop sign and that's when a Black Nissan heading south on Springfield smashed into the red car.

The driver of the Nissan and the passenger in the Pontiac, who was the owner of the car, were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The carjacking suspect/driver of the red Pontiac fled the scene before police arrived.
