UPDATE: Rockford auto theft suspect Matthew Ton, 20, is now in custody in California. Loves Park Police say Ton was wanted on warrants out of Winnebago and Carroll Counties, as well as, Beaverhead County, Montana. Police say Ton was arrested in California on October 11 allegedly in possession of a stolen vehicle from Montana. He is being held on three California cases.
Police aren't calling Matthew Ton, 20, violent, however, he is certainly a wanted man. Ton has allegedly been involved in several police chases and crashes. Ton is believed to be driving a white 2007 Pontiac G6 with Montana license plates: 130119A.
The sheriff says just before 3:00 p.m. Thursday the department tried to pull over Matthew Ton, 20, in Milledgeville after deputies say he was driving a car reported stolen from Rockford.
Ton allegedly didn't stop and lead police on another a high speed chase before crashing near Thomson and then running into a corn filed.
The sheriff says about two hours later they got a call that a car was stolen from Thompson and was last seen southbound on Route 84.
Investigators believe Ton is now driving a silver 2010 Mitsubishi Endeavor Utility Vehicle, with Illinois license plates of "P251963".
Ton is a wanted on warrants for three counts of Aggravated Fleeing to Elude Police and for two counts of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle in Winnebago County.
Just after noon on Tuesday officers say Matthew Ton, 20, allegedly stole from Kohl's on Route 173 and. then took off in a green 2003 Saturn Ion.
Police believe the vehicle, along with another ca were stolen on August 15 from a garage in the 600 block of North Chicago Ave. in Rockford.
Authorities say suspects got into the garage after stealing the victim's purse in a Rockford church on August 10.
