ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The old LT’s on Alpine has new life as the American Legion Post 1207.

The building was renovated with veterans all ages in mind to give everybody a space where they'd feel comfortable. The official name of the post is the American Legion Robert Carlson Post 1207 named for WWII gunner Robert Carlson. There's a display case with some of his mementos right when you walk in. In fact, there are all sorts of memorabilia from all 4 branches of the military. The best part of the building, the meeting room where families can Skype with loved one overseas via a big screen TV. These are all great features, but the most important part of this building is the laid back atmosphere where you can feel free to just talk.

“Sometimes when you’re coming home from war, it’s hard to related to civilians so here we give them an opportunity to share with other guys that have served and share that bond," says Post Commander Rick Rivera.

This building doesn't have too many stairs so the older guys don't have to worry, and there's a separate seating area away from the bar so the entire family can stop in. You don’t have to be a veteran to join the post, but a member of your family did have to serve in the US military.
