Rock River YMCA Picks Intern

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – In a showdown similar to the TV show “The Apprentice”, members of Rockford’s YMCA have chosen who will earn a paid internship for a year.

Contestants have been participating in business-related challenges for the last seven weeks, with one being eliminated every week. The last four were asked to develop an action plan to reach out to those in the area who should be going to the doctor but aren’t. They also had to come up with strategies to increase access to healthy food and preventative health care.

“It was exhausting but it was completely worth it. I mean it was exhausting because we would work, some weeks we would work from eight in the morning until 10 at night for the whole week until Friday.

In addition to the internship, Levi also wins a $1,500 college scholarship.
