By  |

STATELINE (WIFR) -- Anticipating an increased need to serve working families and individuals, due to a recent closing of a Saturday morning food pantry, the Rock River Valley Pantry (RRVP) will be offering evening pantry hours on Wednesday’s from 4-6pm beginning February 5, 2014 and running for 12 weeks. The evening distribution hours have been designed for working individuals and families that need assistance and cannot utilize the pantry during the daytime hours.

The evening hours will be offered at 421 S. Rockton, Rockford IL beginning Feb. 5 through April 30, 2014. The pilot program will be evaluated after the 10th week to determine if demand requires the special evening hours to continue.

The Rock River Valley Pantry operates two pantries and assists an average of 7,000 clients per month. Children are 35% of the client base, and 7% of clients are over the age of 65. During its last fiscal year more than 1,000,000 pounds of food was distributed. The RRVP is a community based pantry and relies on donation from the community to meet the ever increasing need of those going hungry.
