ROCK FALLS (WIFR) -- James Kimmell was at home alone when he used his lucky quarter to scratch an instant Bingo ticket and won $200,000. “As soon as I came out of shock, I called my wife to tell her. Then I signed the back of my ticket and put it on top of the refrigerator. That seemed like a safe place to keep it,” he said.
When Kimmell and his wife Theresa visited the Illinois Lottery Check Writing Center in Rockford to turn in the winning ticket, he wore a Chicago Bears cap and two Chicago Bears shirts. “Yes, I’m a true Bears fan. I don’t miss a game and if I didn’t already have a big TV to watch every Bears game I’d sure be getting one now!” Plans for the winnings include investing and taking care of family including their three children and five grandchildren. “And I would love to go on a cruise somewhere warm,” Theresa added.
“I play one Bingo ticket every week. My advice to other lottery players is to play for fun and believe that you can win,” Kimmell told Lottery Officials. The lifelong Rock Falls resident bought his winning ticket at The Beverage Store, 500 West Route 30 in Rock Falls. The store will receive a $2,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
