Robots Take Over Rock Valley College for Summer Competition

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- We often hear about the summer slide when kids start to forget what they learned in school the year before.

On Saturday, students from all over the Midwest spent the day brushing up on their science and technology skills as robots took over Rock Valley College.

32 high school robotics teams from Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin took part in the Rock River Offseason Competition.

As part of the competition students had to maneuver their robots to pick up plastic bins and move them.

Organizers say the students involved often go onto become leaders in the science and engineering fields.
