UPDATE: Robbery Suspects Arrested After High Speed Chase


UPDATE: STATELINE (WIFR) –One of the men who led Police on a high speed, cross-county chase Tuesday afternoon is facing kidnapping charges.

Detectives say 20-year-old Marcello Brown and 28-year-old Mark Grayned were after a woman near a Capron liquor store. We’re told Grayned tried to hijack her car and even kidnap her before speeding off towards Winnebago County.

The pair allegedly reached speeds of at least 100 miles an hour before they crashed the car near Martin park in Loves Park.

Grayned was caught at the scene. Brown took off and jumped in the Rock River. He nearly drowned, but police were able to haul him away.

LOVES PARK (WIFR) -- Two men are in custody after police say the suspects robbed a Boone County liquor store and lead officers on a high speed multi-county chase that ended in the Rock River.

Investigators believe one of the suspects is a gang member and we're learning tonight a gun was just found near the scene.

Detectives say the men reached speeds of at least 100 miles-per-hour after robbing the Sunrise Liquor Store in Capron, IL. Police say they ended up crashing into a parked car on Park Ridge Road
in Loves Park, around eight miles after officers stopped the chase.

Police say one suspect was caught just a few blocks away. The other jumped into the Rock River where he nearly drowned, that suspect was taken to a local hospital. Taylor Smith say they're just grateful no one was hurt.

"I'm thankful it wasn't my family or anyone's family that actually got hurt and that just these guys were arrested, the cops did their job and we're thankful for that," Smith said.

Police are now trying to figure out if the finger prints on the gun match those of the suspects.



STATELINE (WIFR) – There was quite the commotion in Loves Park after two armed robbery suspects led police on a cross-county high speed chase.

Divers are still looking for a possible gun and other evidence in the Rock River. Police say one of the suspects may have dumped something after the alleged robbery in Capron earlier this afternoon.

The men led police on a high speed chase to Loves Park, then crashed their car on Park Ridge Road. Both suspects ran away. One suspect was caught just a few blocks away. Neighbors say it was a scary situation and say are thankful no one was hurt.

One suspect was sent to the hospital after police say he nearly drowned. The other is in custody and is being taken to the Boone County Jail.
