UPDATE: We’re told a sewer line break is to blame for the sinkhole and could take 3-5 days to patch the pipe and then repave. We’ll continue to keep you updated once we get a better timeline. Rockford’s Public Works Department tells us this sinkhole is not a result of heavy rains.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Below is a release from the city concerning the road closure of N. Main St & Mulberry St. due to a sink hole.
The intersection of N. Main St. and Mulberry St. will be closed effective Friday, April 19, 2013 until further notice. Public Works crews are working to determine the cause of a sink hole in this intersection and will address as deemed appropriate.
Updates regarding the length of time this intersection will remain closed will be provided throughout the project.
Traffic flow will be affected and citizens will need to use an alternate route. Access to local businesses will be maintained however some short term disruption is possible as crews work to restore the pavement. Motorists are asked to please use extreme caution when traveling nearby.
