ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- If you haven’t yet, here's another reason you should check out Rick's Picks at Rockford’s Burpee Museum: the exhibit has just earned the title "Best Festival or Event" in Illinois. The award comes from the Illinois Governor's Conference on Travel and Tourism. The team that designed Rick’s Picks proud to have received this honor.
“We're thrilled for the exhibit beastie it's brought people from all over the county, all over the world into Rockford to see this and to understand what rock and roll history we have right here in Rockford, IL,” says Anne Boccignone, an account manager with GrahamSpencer, the company that helped to curate the display.
The awards were handed out Wednesday night. They highlight places and events that have helped boost local economies. Rick Nielson also took home the first annual Lincoln Award in recognition of his efforts to promote tourism in Illinois. Rick’s Picks has been popular with tourists from all over the US. Anthony Thomas from Chicago spent several hours on Thursday checking out the memorabilia of his favorite band.
“Oh, it was well worth it! This is equal to the rock and roll hall of fame in Cleveland except it's just on one band. I've seen things here I didn't know existed. It was worth it, it was close, it was so worth it to see these things,” says Thomas.
Rick’s Picks has helped to put Rockford on the map, it was even featured on WGN news. You’ve got less than 2 months to check out the display. It closes on April tenth.
