New stats out this week show repeat offenders are taking up a lot of our police departments time. Just to give you an idea, one man was arrested 52 times last year.

The figure comes from a new report. The police department compiled a list of the top 10 offenders of 2012. The least amount on the list is a suspect who was handcuffed around 11 times.

Police Chief Chet Epperson said most of the citations and arrests stem from public intoxication, trespassing, and public nuisance complaints. Epperson said it's a waste of time for the department to put so much effort into cases involving non-violent offenders considering they are already stretched thin.

"It's way too many times for someone to be cited 52 times, some sited 21 times," said Epperson. "It's ludicrous to have a small group of individuals to be arrested 254 times."

Epperson said many of the people on the list are homeless or have mental health issues.

Next week he's meeting with a number of local agencies to see if by coming together they can find a way to cut down on the number of repeat offenders.
