ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Rockford health clinic that helps battered women and those addicted to drugs gets the green light to build a new multi-million dollar center to serve more of the most venerable of our community.
Remedies Renewing Lives received approval from the Rockford city council to build a 25,000 square foot center on East State Street. It's a three million dollar project that will be located on the lot of the former off track betting facility. The center will provide methadone treatments plus a crisis shelter for battered women and their children.
“I talked to many of my constituents, and had two specific meetings about Remedies. It was overwhelmingly in support of Remedies transferring from one location to another, from downtown to this new location. They’re a great organization helping battered women and I truly believe they're doing a great job in the city,” says 14th Ward Alderman Joe Chiarelli; the new clinic will be in his ward.
The goal is to break ground in the spring and have the clinic up and running this fall.
