ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- When disaster hits our homes, the Red Cross steps in to help. With a number of serious fires over the last few weeks, the organization is on par to more than double the amount of people it helps clothe and shelter after fire destroys their homes.
So far this fiscal year, the organization has helped 10 families, 39 people in all. That’s just since July. All of last year, the organization helped 22 families. That increase means the Red Cross is spending more money; so far it has spent $3,500 helping families. That's almost half of what it spent all of last year, and there's still nine months left in this fiscal year.
