ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Two projects expected to draw tens of thousands of tourists are moving along schedule.
According to Rockford Park District Executive Director Tim Dimke, the Downtown Sportscore Complex is expected to be done by the summer of 2016. He spoke before the Winnebago County Regional Tourism Facility Board earlier today. The groundbreaking date will be decided tomorrow.
"It's going to be one fabulous facility with eight basketball, 16 volleyball courts. It's going to have the ability to do wrestling, cheer tournaments, trade shows. It's going to have a neat two-tiered restaurant with one of the neatest overlooks of the river,” Dimke said.
As for Sportscore II, staff say they hope to have the fields done by fall so outdoor play can start next spring. Work on the indoor arena will likely start by May.
