CHICAGO (AP) -- Republican candidate for Illinois governor Bruce Rauner has given another $1.3 million to his campaign.

Documents filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections show the wealthy venture capitalist from Winnetka has now donated more than $5 million to his 2014 bid.

Rauner faces state Sens. Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard and Treasurer Dan Rutherford in the March 18 primary.

He has dominated the primary field in raising money, taking in more than five times the amount of his three opponents combined in the fourth quarter of last year. The money has allowed him to run a sustained television advertising campaign.

Rauner's rivals have criticized him for trying to buy the election. He notes he has thousands of supporters giving him money.
