Ralston Builds New Sidewalks

MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) – Students at Ralston Elementary now have a safer way of walking or biking to school.

Brand-new sidewalks were opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier today. Before, there was only a sidewalk in front of the building. Now, a crosswalk has been built at the traffic light near the school. Students will also have access to sidewalks on both sides of the street.

“It allows them to stay away from the road and the traffic. As this road gets busier, it ensures the safety and it makes it a little bit easier for them to walk down this side of the street as well as the other side,” said Jason Blume, principal at Ralston Elementary School.

When Blume took over as principal in 2010, he said he made this a priority when he found out the school had received a grant to build new sidewalks.
