Raising Awareness of Hit and Run Accidents

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The eight year old girl who nearly died after a hit and run accident Sunday afternoon in Rockford, is still in the hospital.

Friends of the victim went back to the intersection of Summit and Crosby on Monday night to encourage drivers to slow down and stop at stop signs.

Karen Hernandez says the little girl hurt in the accident is improving and they want to to make sure something this tragic doesn't happen again.

"The kids basically put all of this together, with the help of their parents. Its a neighborhood thing, everybody is looking out for other children in this neighborhood. Hopefully its going to get them to slow down or stop," Hernandez.

Police have arrested Ricardo Rodriguz, he's charged with leaving the scene of an accident and for having no valid drivers license
