ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Getting a job isn’t always easy. Some local employers say there’s a small pool of qualified candidates. That’s why Rockford Public Schools is trying to build a bigger base.
District 205 is working with local contractors to start a pilot job-shadowing program. Today, the businesses met with and interviewed prospective workers. The estimated 15 people who will be accepted for the paid internship will follow tradesmen and learn the industry at different RPS construction sites this summer.
“Obviously, the more people you have, the better, the bigger range to select from. It's nice that it's a lot of young people so if they do end up being an employee, this could last for quite a long time and it's nice to have younger people come in and join a company to better your company for the future,” said contractor Anthony Scandroli.
Upcoming construction work for RPS includes the field house at East High School and auditorium upgrades at East, Guilford, and Jefferson.
