RMTD Begins Service to Bell School Road Cancer Center

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Starting Tuesday, October 15, 2013, passengers using the Rockford Mass Transit fixed route buses will be able to access the newly opened Swedish American Cancer Center on Bell School route by scheduling a ride on the RMTD shuttle.

The new shuttle service will run directly from the East Side Transfer Center at 725 Lyford Road to the Swedish American Cancer Center on an as needed, pre-scheduled ride basis. There is no charge for the scheduled shuttle ride from the Lyford Road location however, standard fares will still apply to the fixed route portion of the trip.

Passengers needing to get to the Cancer Center should call 815.961.2256 to schedule their ride based on their appointment time or employment start time. Passengers are encouraged to schedule their ride at least 24 hours prior to their appointment time, however rides can be schedule up to 4 hours in advance. Once the shuttle pickup time has been established, the passenger can then determine which East State Street or Belvidere bus to use in order to meet up with the shuttle at the Lyford Road location.

The RMTD East Side Transfer Center is accessible from the #11 East State Street route every half hour from 6:20 am until 6:20 pm. The #24 Belvidere route also services the Lyford Road facility every hour between 7:20 am and 5:20 pm. The Cancer Center shuttle will not run at night or on the weekends.
