RFD Reports Busiest Month in Airport's History

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Spring travel at the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) took off in March with the airport reporting its busiest month ever. RFD served 35,453 passengers during the month, compared to 33,333 passengers in March 2012, which was the airport’s previous record.

“Having another record breaking March is a great accomplishment for RFD. Our new Allegiant service to Ft. Myers has really helped boost our numbers, and our international destinations through Apple Vacations booked very strong throughout the spring travel season,” said RFD Director Mike Dunn.

Also during the month RFD recognized the 50,000th passenger to use its seasonal Cancun service, which was launched in February 2006. Due to the strong performance of this route, Apple Vacations has extended RFD’s Cancun service into June, and the additional seats are selling fast.

At the end of February 2013, RFD was nearly 10 percent behind its passenger numbers from 2012 due to decreased capacity from the absence of service to Ft. Myers. With its strong March results RFD is now only 2.3 percent behind its passenger traffic numbers from 2012.

“Coming into March, I was very confident that our passenger numbers would rebound with the addition of Ft. Myers service starting up in mid-February. As this service continues throughout the year, I expect us to gain on and even surpass our passenger numbers from 2012,” said Dunn.

The overall load factor for all flights in March was 92 percent.

RFD is served by three airlines; Allegiant, Apple Vacations and Frontier. RFD currently has flights to nine non-stop destinations including Cancun, Denver, Ft. Myers, Las Vegas, Montego Bay, Orlando, Phoenix, Punta Cana and Tampa Bay. For more information on all flights, visit FlyRFD.com.
