Quinn Appoints Jackson Son, Wife of Ex-Staffer

CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn has announced 14 appointments to state boards and commissions, including a son of the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the wife of a former chief of staff.

Quinn's office said Tuesday that Jonathan Jackson has been appointed to a six-year term on the Illinois Community College Board. His appointment must be confirmed by the state Senate.

Jackson is a business professor at Chicago State University.

Kathryn Lavin has been named to the state's Council on Developmental Disabilities.

She is director of creative strategies at Neumann Family Services, a nonprofit for people with disabilities, and the wife of former Quinn chief of staff Jack Lavin. Jack Lavin left that post after taking a private-sector job last fall.

Both positions are unpaid but provided state reimbursements for expenses.
