STATELINE (WIFR) – You might have noticed a longer wait at your local restaurants this weekend. That's because 26,000 people are in town for this year's Puma Cup soccer tournament.
The tournament features soccer teams from throughout the country.
The Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau thinks they'll spend about $1.5 million. That's on things like meals, entertainment, and of course lodging. Even teams from just a short drive away are spending money in the Stateline.
“Yesterday we had about five hours, so we stayed in the wonderful town of rockford and we did some lunch and bowling,” said Cathy Grosam, who drove out from Bartlett, Illinois. “The kids had a great time, we had some fun. we're here next week for a tournament with my daughter, so we're excited to come out for that group.”
Most area hotels were booked this weekend and expect to be booked next week as well.
The Puma Cup wraps up next Sunday.
