ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Dueling protests broke out across town today, from groups that want us to know where local political candidates stand on abortion.
Pro-life supporters rallied outside Steve Stadelman's office. He's running for state senate in the 34th District. They also visited the office of 68th District Representative Candidate Carl Wasco. Planned Parenthood endorsed both candidates last week. Their opponents were greeted by pro-choice protesters. They gathered outside the offices of state representative John Cabello and Frank Gambino. Both groups say abortion is a serious political issue.
"We believe that if people know that Carl Wasco and Steve Stadelman are taking money from abortionists, that they will rethink their possible decision to vote for these two men,” said Kevin Rilott, Co-Director of Rockford Pro-Life Initiative.
"Women's health has to be their own decision they have their own personal reasons. The majority of lawmakers are men and they will never have to have this decision to make,” said Barb Giolotto, President of Winnebago County for Choice.
Stadelman and Gambino will join us live in studio next Tuesday for a special candidate forum on the 23 News at Six.
