DIXON, Ill. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors have an extra 30 days to respond to former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell's appeal of her nearly 20-year prison sentence.

Crundwell appealed the sentence on July 10. The Telegraph in Dixon reports that U.S. Attorney Joseph Pederson requested the extension last week citing a heavy caseload. Crundwell's attorney, Paul Gaziano, did not object.

Crundwell was sentenced in February after pleading guilty to stealing nearly $54 million from the northern Illinois city. She is serving her sentence in a Minnesota federal prison. Her release date is March 5, 2030.

Prosecutors' response to Crundwell's appeal is now due by Sept. 9. Crundwell's attorney has until Sept. 23 for further arguments.
