STATELINE (WIFR) – A local representative wants to cut back funding even more by freezing our property tax rates.
“I’m constantly hearing from folks, my property taxes are too high, my property taxes are too high, so it’s my job to try to do something about that we’re taxing people out of their homes. It’s time for government to start living within their means, stop expanding."
State Representative John Cabello wants to stop cities and school boards from raising those taxes. That could force them to make even more cuts to schools, park districts and municipalities, who rely on property taxes for money. Loves Park mayor, Darryl Lindberg says it’s possible to find other means.
"We have no revenue stream in Loves Park from property tax. we've been living without that benefit for over 35 years. so we've learned to live without any money coming from the property tax and that saves our people, the city of loves park a lot of money,” said Lindberg.
Winnebago County Chairman Scott Christiansen tells us they've kept the property tax at the same rate for the last 2 years.
