ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A local aviation company is making headlines for its award winning work restoring a vintage jet.
Pride Aircraft of Rockford won the Golden Wrench award from EAA Airventure Show in Oshkosh for fixing up this old Soviet jet from 1979. For the past ten months crews restored the L39C from the ground up. Pride Aircraft President John Morgan says this is the only L39 to win this award and everyone had a hand in the restoration.
"There's probably more than 2,000 man hours that went into the work and that continued until a week before Oshkosh. We basically stripped everything out of the fuselage and landing gear and wheel wells. and restored it with new parts or restored it as new and so it looks like this," Morgan said.
This is the sixth award Pride Aircraft has won from the Oshkosh Air Show.
