Practice Velocity Receives $800,000 from Winnebago County Board

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- A new tenant is one step closer to moving in to the Machesney Park Mall, bringing with it a potential for hundreds of new jobs.

Practice Velocity will receive $800,000 from Winnebago County to fix up the old Kohl's location inside the mall. Most of the money is coming in the form of a loan that was approved Thursday by the county board. Practice Velocity already has a location on Forest Hills Road and employs about 250 people. The company provides software to medical facilities and with more room, could hire 75 new workers over the next three years, plus 20 to 40 new jobs after that. These jobs pay between 20 and 89 thousand dollars a year, salaries many say are sorely needed in our area.

“I know even the governor of Wisconsin called these folks recruiting them and we certainly don't want to lose jobs. These are good paying jobs, $40,000 on average. We felt this was something we wanted to keep here. It’s in the advanced technology and medical field, which are two good ones we want to build on,” says Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen.

The company is still waiting for approval on a $250,000 loan from the Village of Machesney Park as well as a $4.4 million loan from the state. If those fall through, Practice Velocity may not be able to make the move out to the mall.
