JANESVILLE (WIFR) -- Janesville Police are warning local heroin users about a potentially potent and deadly batch of heroin that could be making its way through their community.
Police say they responded to two overdoses Wednesday which may indicate that the heroin circulating in Janesville may be stronger than what users are used to.
The department says they normally have a very strong stance against serious drug use but are concerned for those who are addicts and may accidentally overdose in the coming days.
"We know there are heroin addicts in our community and they can die," says Janesville Police Lt. Keith Lawver. "The addict that overdoses just has no idea what they're getting and you can't tell by looking at [the heroin]. You just take the risk and you will find out the hard way if it's too much."
Janesville police say heroin over doses this year are on the rise and are on pace to surpass last year's total.
