JANESVILLE (WIFR) – More than half a decade after hundreds lost their jobs, a developer is working on plans to build a new auto assembly plan in Rock County.

It’s been nearly six years since the GM Plant in Janesville closed.
Developer Bill Watson says he wants to partner with private investors to build an assembly plant south of Highway 11 and Interstate 39-90 and lease it to an automaker.

“There's no risk for anybody except us and the investors that come along with us, please give me a chance to do it.”

In the early 1980’s, several Florida engineering firms sued Watson because they said he didn’t pay them for work they did on a large development project. Watson says that was settled of court.
