UPDATE (WIFR) -- Autopsies have found that the two brothers found dead in their home died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives have been working non-stop to try and figure out who is responsible.

43-year-old James Garner and 39-year-old James Hatchett were found dead in their west side apartment building Cunningham Street Friday night. Friends and family members will hold a vigil in their honor on Wednesday.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Police are investigating the deaths of two men at the 1100 block of Cunningham in Rockford. Neighbors are just shocked by what happened today.

"It's not a safe area anymore and to me that's sad," said Deryk Hayes. "Growing up in this area, it's extremely sad."

A couple buildings down from where Deryk Hayes grew up, Rockford police are investigating the deaths of two men.

"Upon the Rockford Police arrival, we located two adult male, deceased inside the residence with suspicious, under suspicious circumstances with suspicious injuries," said Lt. Patrick Hoey.

Now living around the corner from his childhood home, Hayes said he no longer feels safe in his neighborhood.

"When I see crime scene tape, I want to make sure it's not one of the high school students I mentor or the middle school students that I mentor," said Hayes. "I want to make sure that that's not the case."

The Winnebago County coroner said both victims had trauma to their bodies. She said it is too soon to tell how they died.

The victims names are expected to be released tomorrow. The coroner says an autopsy is scheduled for Monday
