Police Investigating Attempted Bank Robbery and Carjacking

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Release from Police:

On May 1st, 2013 shortly after 8:30 AM, members of the Rockford Police Department responded to the Union Savings Bank located at 203 N. Alpine Rd. in reference to an Attempted Armed Robbery/Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking incident. Officers were advised the suspect, while armed with a handgun, attempted to gain entry into the bank. The suspect was unable to enter the bank because the door to the bank was locked.

The suspect went to the drive thru of the bank and forced a female victim to exit her vehicle at gunpoint. The suspect fled from the area in the victim’s vehicle southbound on N. Alpine Rd.

A short time later, the victim’s vehicle was located abandoned in the 3300 block of West Gate Parkway.

The suspect is described as a light skinned black male between 20-30 years of age about 5’9” tall.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Just after 8:30 this morning, the Rockford Police Department responded to an Attempted Bank Robbery and Carjacking at Union Savings Bank, located in the 200 block of N. Alpine Rd., Rockford, IL.

A suspect was unsuccessful in his attempt to rob the bank but did carjack a patron in the business parking lot. The suspect is described as a 5'8, 175 lbs. man wearing a black stocking cap, partial ski mask, black hoodie, jeans, and armed with a handgun. He stole a gray, 2012 Kia Forte, Illinois plate N513969. The vehicle fled south on Alpine Rd. and may have had front and driver's side body damage.
