UPDATE: 3 DeKalb Officers On Leave After Fatal Shooting

UPDATE (AP) -- DeKalb police say three officers are on paid administrative leave after a Malta man was shot and killed.

The Daily Chronicle in DeKalb reports 28-year-old Cameron D. Lupton died Tuesday after being shot in the neck.

Police say Lupton was shot when officers found him attacking his father and step-mother at home in DeKalb.

The two were taken to Kishwaukee Hospital with multiple stab wounds.

Authorities haven't said what prompted the attack.

DeKalb police Chief Gene Lower says it appears officers correctly used force. But Illinois State Police will conduct an investigation into the shooting.


UPDATE: DEKALB (WIFR) -- A DeKalb couple is recovering after being attacked last night in their home by a family member. The attacker was shot and killed by police.

DeKalb investigators say 28-year-old Cameron Lupton was stabbing his father carl and step-mother Charlotte Lupton at their home on Quail Run in DeKalb. That’s when officers entered the home and shot and killed Cameron. The father and stepmom were treated for serious and life-threatening stab wounds at the scene then rushed to the hospital.

There is still no word on why the man attacked his family.


DEKALB (WIFR) -- Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal officer involved shooting in DeKalb.

Just before noon on Tuesday, DeKalb officers were called to a home on High Pointe Drive on the city's south side for a Well-being check.

During the investigation a follow-up phone call sent DeKalb police officers and a Northern Illinois University police officer to a disturbance call in the 1000 block of Quail Run. When officers arrived to the scene they found Cameron Lupton, 28, of Malta, IL allegedly attacking his family members with a knife. That's when a DeKalb police officer opened fire killing Lupton.

The victims Carl Lupton, 57, and his wife Charlotte Lupton, 67, were treated at the scene for multiple stab wounds and immediately taken to the hospital. Right now both victims survived the attack and are cooperation with investigators.

The Illinois State Police are on the scene conducting an independent investigation regarding the use of deadly force.

The name of the officer involved in the shooting has not been released.
