BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- On Sunday, January 6, 2013, Belvidere and Boone County police arrested 26-year-old Antonio Moreno who was in possession of a stolen gun.
Moreno, a known gang member of Belvidere, was charged with resisting a peace officer, unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (class 2 felony). Moreno remains in the custody of the Boone County jail.
Around 12:40 a.m. Sunday, January 6, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Maple Avenue, Belvidere in reference to a complaint of multiple gunshots. Belvidere officers, along with a Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy, checked the area for suspects. Shortly after the initial call, the Sheriff’s deputy located a subject in the 1600 block of Pearl Street who was later identified as Moreno.
Moreno fled on foot, but was apprehended by the deputy after a short foot chase.
At the time of the arrest, police recovered a 9mm handgun and a quantity of cannabis from Moreno. The handgun was later discovered to be stolen from Rockford. A class 2 felony is punishable by three (3) to seven (7) years in the Illinois department of corrections.
