Police Arrest Man for Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- On December 4th, 2012, Rockford Police Officers responded to the Walmart Store located at 3849 Northridge Drive in reference to a Vehicular Hijacking.

At the scene, officers spoke with the 84-year-old woman who advised she offered to give the suspect a ride from Loves park, Illinois to the Walmart Store. When they arrived at the Walmart Store, the suspect forced the victim out of her vehicle and fled the area in her vehicle. A description of the vehicle was broadcasted to alert other officers in the area.

A Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy located the suspect in the victim’s vehicle at Perryville and Spring Creek. 31-year-old John Leombruni was placed under arrest by the deputy. Located in Leombruni’s belongings were hypodermic syringes and drug paraphernalia.

Rockford Police Detectives conducted follow up investigation into the incident and charged Leombruni with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes,
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Revoked Drivers license.

As a reminder to citizens, the Rockford Police Department advises people to be careful of who you allow to enter your vehicle.
