ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Work has already started on Winnebago County's 9/11 Memorial. The next step is constructing a fund to pay for the next phase of the half million dollar project.

"Party on the Rock" is one of two major fundraisers held every year to help pay for the $500,000 memorial, that will sit outside the Winnebago County Justice Center.

The project honors the hundreds of emergency responders killed on September 11th and the nearly 30 first responders who have died in our area over the years.

It will take 18 months to create these large sculptures they actually start out in clay and are dipped in bronze.
