ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Dozens of local community groups came together Wednesday with one mission, to put an end to cyber-bullying.
More than 20 local agencies that are a part of the Violence Prevention Collaborative held their 13th annual Partner for Peace luncheon and seminar in Rockford on Wednesday. The group’s main mission is to crack down on crime by promoting violence prevention. This year the group's main topic was on internet safety and cyber-bullying, giving parents an idea of what to look out for and how to help their child if they are a victim.
“You have to educate the kids about internet behavior and safety and I think that's important. Also, the peace awards I believe every year also helps raise awareness of violence prevention,” says Karen Lytwyn with the Violence Prevention Collaborative.
17th Judicial Circuit Judge Rosemary Collins was honored for her long-term commitment and dedication to violence prevention. Other awards included:
Partner in Peace Individual - Judge Joseph Bruce
Partner in Peace Group/Organization - Carpenter's Place
Pioneer in Peace (lifetime achievement) - Wendy Vaughn (of Zeke Giorgi Law Clinic)
