Park District Offers Alternative Activities for Students

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford Park District and its partner organizations will be open Monday to provide alternate activities and programs for students while school is cancelled.

The Rockford Park District is extending School’s Out camp opportunities at Washington Park Community Center on January 6, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Washington Park Community Center is typically open when school is not in session and provides a fun, safe, and positive environment where participants can take part in sports, play board games, access the computer lab, and take part in other recreational opportunities.

The program is free for current Washington Park Community Center and Lewis Lemon Community Center members and is only $30 for non-members. This one-time membership fee provides access to Washington Park Community Center for the rest of the school year. Registration is taken on-site but with a limited capacity (first-come, first-served basis). Lunch, an afternoon snack, and drinks will be provided.

The Washington Park Community Center is located at 3617 Delaware Street.

The Carlson Ice Arena in Loves Park will be open for public skating from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sapora Playworld inside Carlson Ice Arena will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Indoor Sports Center will offer open soccer and volleyball for high school students from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and basketball from
12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
