Park Board Supports School Referendum

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The group of charge of running Rockford’s parks stands behind the referendum to fix Rockford’s schools.

The Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners has thrown its support behind the Better Schools, Brighter Future campaign.
That group wants voters to say yes to a referendum that would allow District 205 to take out $139 million dollars in bonds. The money would be used for repairs and renovations in Rockford’s schools. And that’s something one Park Commissioner has seen first hand.

“I was a teacher in a room saw if you could improve these situations and improve the learning environment the students would learn better," says Jack Armstrong, President of the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners.

The bonds are not expected to raise taxes since they're replacing existing bonds. They are 20-year bonds.
