ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Parents in one Rockford neighborhood say the bus stop where their kids wait every morning isn’t safe and they want it moved. That’s because they say it’s too close to a boarded up eyesore, the former Rock River School.
It’s been vacant for more than a decade. Families in the area say they see people coming and going from the building daily, despite multiple no trespassing signs. There have been at least three fires in the building and neighbors say they’re worried about what goes on inside the former school. Middle and high school students catch the bus close to this building, something parents want to see changed.
Parents have been told the bus stop won’t be changed because high school routes don’t stop in neighborhoods.
